Yes, this is nasty!
The search bar on the top of the list is rhythmbox’s search bar that works great. The problem is with the search bar on the bottom which is default in gtk+. This bar works exactly in the same way in other gtk+ applications, such as gajim.
I’m using Clementine now, it works just fine, and it has the sound indicator too
